While this is an easier event to complete on the normal difficulty, the triggering of the Heroic mode Public Event is much more difficult as it requires not killing all the Fallen as soon as they are dropped off. Yes, really everyone is trying to drill - don’t ask me.
It begins with a Skiff dropping off a Glimmer drill. The Fallen Glimmer farming event in Destiny 2 is reminiscent of the Public Events in the Rocket Yard in the original Destiny.
While I wasn’t able to capture the Heroic version of every Public Event I did get the chance to complete a few and you can find them below. Heroic modes operate similar to “Heroic” options within the original Destiny - the game adds an increased challenge that offers substantially better loot. The tasks in Heroic Public Events in the EDZ range from blowing up a ship, to shooting timed vent openings. This is done by showing when and where the Public Events will be taking place (a common complaint in the original Destiny) as well as putting them directly on your path to just about everything in the world.Ī notable feature of the new Public Event system is that there are unique ways to trigger each events’ Heroic modes. Destiny 2 and Heroic Public Eventsĭuring my time in the EDZ in Destiny 2 I was able to capture some footage of my Fireteam completing some Public Events, a returning feature that has been re-worked from the ground up in order to drive players to participate. During my almost 30 hours with the game I got to experience a great deal of Earth’s new patrol area the European Dead Zone, or “EDZ” for short. Press F for all the vanilla Spinmetal grinders.Last week I was flown out and put up at a hotel by Activision so that I could spend three days playing Destiny 2.
DESTINY PATROL PUBLIC EVENTS UPGRADE
Better still? There's no sign of having to collect materials to upgrade our gear. Nonetheless, there's little doubt that patrol in Destiny 2 is going to be a substantially livelier diversion, and as someone who was looking for good PvE news, I can't wait to go planet hopping.
In the past, patrol activities like Court of Oryx, Agonarch Runes and Archon's Forge all lost their lustre once we out-leveled them or exhausted the possible drops. My hope is that the Flashpoints and Lost Sectors have rewards attached that enable them to stay relevant deep into Destiny 2's endgame. Engeln suggested just getting inside some will require an amount of gameplay (perhaps some platforming?) and the idea is that, unlike Destiny 1, when you discover a cave there should be a chance there's something exciting in it. These are effectively dungeons with their own boss and loot chest, the entrances to which will require varying amounts of exploration to uncover. Most interesting to me, and potentially replayable, are the new Lost Sectors. In the Nessus example (very mild spoiler incoming) it meant discovering more about Failsafe, the female AI from a crashed colony shop. In a similar vein but more multipart, are the World Quests, which are threaded mission lines designed to tell the story of the destination they're set on. Engeln said these would be reasonably quick, and the "scan cache" prompt on screen suggested there's some sort of reward at the end of them. "Especially with the heroic and a couple of other things that we're not even talking about yet." Though some stuff is under wraps, he did reveal that the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 (the sassy Nathan Fillion robot one) will also be selling treasure maps for the Flashpoint destination.Įlsewhere there are Adventure missions to seek out, which will be fully voiced and expand on the main story. "We realised that public events are one of the most exciting pieces of content that we have," says Engeln.
These will also feature new named enemies, only triggered when that destination is the weekly Flashpoint, which might be done by fulfilling a secondary objective, such as finishing an event particularly fast. It sounds like Flashpoints will offer rewards from the same tier, but you'll have to complete multiple public events to earn them. The Nightfall was a weekly one-off Strike mission with potentially sweet (and sometimes sour) rewards but also ramped up difficulty modifiers.
